Overview
The evolution of Ultra320 SCSI hard drive technology is now available to meet your IBM eServer xSeries or IntelliStation data storage requirements. These high-speed SCSI HDDs satisfy a range of high-performance storage requirements.

Each drive is contained in a 3.5-inch, 1-inch high, slim-line form factor that allows maximum installations in supported xSeries servers and IntelliStation workstations. These hard disk drives (HDDs) are engineered to support advanced enterprise server and workstation applications.

Next Generation of SCSI technology

  • For supported xSeries servers with hot-swap bays select:

High-Density and Performance
Through advanced areal density technology, these HDDs store a large amount of data on each platter. This enables high data storage capacities on supported systems, while providing excellent storage subsystem performance. Performance characteristics include:

  • Ultra320 SCSI interface - Supports instantaneous interface data transfers of up to 320 MBs per second
  • 10,000-rpm spindle speed
  • 3.00ms average latency and 4.7ms typical average read seek time

Reliability

  • SCA-2 compliant (hot-swap version) - HDDs dock directly into the hot-swap backplane of supported Ultra320-compatible servers
  • Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA) - Can alert you of most impending drive failures, so replacements can be made before a problem occurs

Hardware requirements
Ultra320 SCSI HDD options
An Ultra320 SCSI controller must be connected to these HDD options in order to run in Ultra320 SCSI mode. If connected to an Ultra160 SCSI controller, the HDD will function in Ultra160 SCSI mode.

Ultra320 SCSI hot-swap HDD options
The Ultra320 hot-swap HDD options are supported in Ultra160 or Ultra320 SCSI modes in the hot-swap drive bays of the following xSeries servers:

  1. "CRU" stands for Customer Replaceable Unit. It is the part number used for ordering service and replacement parts.
