Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Solution

This behavior is resolved in VMware ESX or ESXi 4.1 patch 04.

Contact VMware for patch availability. The file will be available from the VMware web site at the following URL:

Additional information

When this VMware alert is received, first check ServeRAID logs for actual battery health status by either collecting Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) log or using the MegaRAID Command Line Interface (MegaCLI) tool.

The following is a command sample to display battery status using MegaCLI:

  MegaCLI.exe -AdpBbuCmd -GetBbuStatus -aALL

If there are no errors found in ServeRAID logs, then the battery itself is in good condition. A sample log output is appended at the end this section.

There is an issue between the VMware ESX 4.1 operating system hardware monitoring feature and ServeRAID iBBU08 battery that can display a false alert. This requires the VMware ESX or ESXi. Otherwise, it should be safe to ignore the alert.
