Source

RETAIN tip: H205528

Symptom

VMware vCenter ESX 4.1.0 may report stale memory alerts that were previously resolved and that are no longer reported in the server event logs.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • VMware ESX Server 4.1, any Update

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Workaround

Clear the following logs:

Integrated Management Module (IMM) web interface event logs on the server
System Event Log (SEL) log on the server
Any locally stored VMware operating system (OS) vCenter SEL or Common Information Model (CIM) logs and any cached VMware logs

Additional information

VMware ESX 4.1.0 vCenter may continue to report system memory alerts for memory errors that a system has previously reported and corrective repair action has already been taken and resolved.

The server is no longer reporting the memory error in Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) or IMM event logs. But, VMware ESX 4.1.0 vCenter may continue to report it after it has been addressed. If this occurs, clearing the logs as stated in the workaround section resolves the issue.
