RETAIN tip: H205601
Symptom
There is a limitation in Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) to get and set the Integrated Management Module (IMM) login profile status through VMware ESXi. Users cannot get or set the IMM login profile using IBM Upward Integration for VMware vSphere.
Affected configurations
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.0 with IBM Customization Installable, Update 1
This tip is not system specific.
This tip is not option specific.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.
Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/
Solution
This behavior will be corrected in a future release of the Broadcom Common Information Model (CIM) Provider.
The target date for this release is scheduled for fourth quarter 2012.
The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
For a stand alone server, users can connect directly to IMM to do the configuration through the IMM User Interface (UI) or Command Line Interface (CLI) interface.
For Blade systems, no workaround is available at this time. External access of the blade is forbidden.
Additional information
The root cause is that the Small Footprint CIM Broker (SFCB) server in ESXi v5.0 Update 1 does not include SFCB patch 2980524 and 2934540.
As a result, the SFCB server cannot deal with the same associate class in the different providers. IBM and Broadcom providers register the same classname in the IBM ESXi customization image.
