RETAIN tip: H205831

Symptom

Systems running UpdateXpress Service Pack Installer (UXSPI) require 4 Gigabit (GB) of memory if the system is booting from a Universal Serial Bus (USB) key or DVD or CD and can leverage memory space only. Update may fail if there is not enough free memory left.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • UpdateXpress Service Pack Installer, any version

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Workaround

If the system is booting from a USB key or DVD or CD and leverages memory space only, the system's installed memory should be up to 4 GB.

Additional information

This limitation affects system booting from USB key, DVD, or CD. In this case, the operation system, the tool, and all of the update packages will be loaded to memory. The tool and update packages may take up to 2 GB memory, so 4 GB memory is required to unsure update run smoothly.
