Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) missing name information in Hardware Inventory report for VMware ESXi - IBM System x BladeCenter

Source

RETAIN tip: H206228

Symptom

When Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) attempts to collect the System Card information from a host running VMware ESXi, the name information in the System Card Information section of the Hardware Inventory report is missing.

An example command is:

  DSA.exe -v --vmware-esxi userid:password@ipaddress

Affected Configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following items:

  • VMware ESXi 5.0, any update
  • VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.0 with IBM Customization Installable, any update

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The system has the symptom described above.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information:

Solution

At present, this is a restriction for which there is no fix.

VMware is evaluation the issue and any solution will come from them.

Additional Information

DSA retrieves Card Information from the 'OMC_Card' class in the 'root/cimv2' namespace (provided by VMware), and the Name property of the 'OMC_Card' always is empty.

VMware still is evaluating whether they will fill in the value, but it is not implemented at present.
