ASU fails to install Function On Demand (FOD) key through Keyboard Controller Style (KCS) - IBM System X and BladeCenter

  • Applicable countries and regions

Source

RETAIN tip: H122119

Symptom

In the current version, the Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) tries to install the Function On Demand (FoD) key by the highest Keyboard Controller Style (KCS) transmit speed, which leads to unstable behavior.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Advanced Settings Utility, any version

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Solution

To fix this, ASU will try to install the FoD key at a lower KCS transmit speed.

This already is fixed and verified in IBM ToolsCenter 12D ASU release.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Users can install the FoD key through the ASU Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Local Area Network (LAN) interface.

Users can install the FoD key through the ASU Common Information Model (CIM) interface.
