DSA log shows an extra '!' after 'CPU 2' name in firmware VPD Page - IBM Servers

RETAIN tip: H207217

A machine set up with two Central Processing Units (CPUs), and run Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) inventory, there will be an extra Exclamation Point (!) after the second Central Processing Unit (CPU) name in firmware/Vital Product Data (VPD) report page, like 'CPU 2!.'

This issue occurs on both DSA 9.00 and DSA Preboot 9.03.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) 9.00, any edition
  • IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) Preboot 9.03, any edition

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The system is configured with 2 CPU's.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

This behavior is corrected in DSA v9.30.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Ignore the extra '!' after the CPU 2 string. It is meaningless.

Additional information

The raw data collected by Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) command just shows the error name of 'CPU 2!,' the VPD data itself is wrong.
