Symptom

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 installed in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) mode hangs when starting an IBM System x3100 M4 or IBM System x3250 M4 where an Emulex 10 Gb Ehternet Virtual Fabric Adapter III for IBM System x, Option part number 95Y3762, is installed.

Affected Configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3100 M4, type 2582, any model
  • System x3250 M4, type 2583, any model

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, any update

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Emulex 10 Gb Ehternet Virtual Fabric Adapter III for IBM System x, Option part number 95Y3762, any replacement part number (CRU)

The system has the symptom described above.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for third quarter 2013.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

Install RHEL 6.x in Legacy mode.
