SNMP Mib file fails to compile in certain SNMP manager tools - IBM Flex System x

Source

RETAIN tip: H207753

Symptom

Users attempting to load a Management Information Base (MIB) file that accompanies the specified switches may experience errors when attempting to compile the MIB file into certain Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) managers. The following errors may be seen:

Line 54594: Warning: registration of 'agVMGroupInfo(12)' replacing previously defined 'vmGroupInfo(12)'Error: Duplicate object label 'ibm' at same level.

Error detected while loading MIB file: /var/opt/OVshare/snmp_mibs/Vendor/ibm?BNT?GBScSE-10G-L23.MI B. This MIB cannot be loaded until the following problem is corrected:

Error: Duplicate object label 'ibm' at same level
.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

  • Flex System EN2092 1 Gigabit Ethernet Scalable Switch, Option part number 49Y4294, any Replacement part number (CRU)
  • Flex System EN4093 10 Gigabit Fabric Scalable Switch,Option part number 49Y4270, any Replacement part number (CRU)
  • Flex System Fabric CN4093 10 Gigabit Converged Scalable Switch, Option part number 00D5823, any Replacement part number (CRU)

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not software specific.

The 7.3.1 and 7.5.1 firmware for the EN2092, EN4093, CN4093 is affected.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of firmware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for second quarter 2013.

When firmware is available users should download and recompile the updated MIB file to fix the errors.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Additional information

The errors will prevent the MIB file from compiling and therefore certain SNMP traps specific to the switches will not be recognized by the SNMP Manager software. Also, polling of specific MIB Object Identifiers (OIDs) will not be possible.

Normal operation of the switch is not affected by the error in the MIB compilation.
