Unable to download BOFM configuration if AMM IP has 12 characters - IBM Servers

Source

RETAIN tip: H21187

Symptom

Users may not be able to download an IBM BladeCenter Open Fabric Manager (BOFM) configuration after a modification has been made if the Advanced Management Module (AMM) Internet Protocol (IP) has 12 characters in the format of 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.'

For example:

  • 192.168.122.122

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • BladeCenter Chassis, type 7967, any model

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM BladeCenter Open Fabric Manager Basic (Integrated with HW), Option part number 59Y2608 (replaces 44W3981), any version
  • IBM BladeCenter Open Fabric Manager Basic, Option part number 44W3981, any version

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Option part numbers:

  • BladeCenter Advanced Management Module, Option part number 25R5778, any replacement part number

The system has the symptom described above.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information:

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in the new release of AMM firmware.

The file is be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/

Workaround

Currently, the workaround is to use an Advanced Management Module (AMM) Internet Protocol (IP) with fewer than 12 characters.

For example:

  1. 192.168.12.12
  2. 192.168.122.12
  3. 72.168.122.111

Additional information

The symptom occurs due to a character limitation in Advanced Management Module (AMM) firmware.

The Workaround alleviates the issue by using fewer than 12 characters in the Advanced Management Module (AMM) Internet Protocol (IP).

The Fix will add the ability to have 12 characters in the Advanced Management Module (AMM) Internet Protocol (IP).
