H21632: 'THIN LOGICAL DRIVE REPOSITORY - FULL' error message not resolved - IBM System Storage

Source

RETAIN tip: H21632

Symptom

A thin volume remained in 'full' condition after raising the maximum expansion capacity using the IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager Client.

Affected configurations

The system can be any of the following IBM servers:

  • IBM System Storage DCS3700 Storage Subsystem, type 1818, any model
  • IBM System Storage DS3512, type 1746, any model
  • IBM System Storage DS3524, type 1746, any model

This tip is not software specific.

This tip is not option specific.

The following system firmware levels are affected: 07.84.44.00 or earlier levels

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in the 07.84.46.00 or later versions of the controller firmware.

The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

The temporary workaround for this issue is to change the expansion mode to 'Manual', and expand by an amount sufficient to make the volume optimal. At that point, the expansion mode can be changed back to 'Automatic'.

Additional information

The volume state was not being transitioned properly when the repository expanded because the over warn checking was incorrect.
