Cumulative PTF packaging

IBM has made two changes to the iSeries Service that you receive when you order the Cumulative PTF package for V5R1 or later.

• When you order the Version 5 Release 2.0 Cumulative PTF Package SF99520 - C2211520 or later, you will also receive:
  • The HIPER Group PTF (SF99519)
  • The Database Group PTF (SF99502)
• When you order the Version 5 Release 1.0 Cumulative PTF Package SF99510 - C2134510 or later, you will also receive:
  • The HIPER Group PTF (SF99097)
  • The Database Group PTF (SF99501)

  The Cumulative PTF CD-ROMs are identified by the label printed on the CD-ROM.

  For example:
  'Pkgid: iSeries-OS/400 Cumulative PTFs'
  'Srv Req: SF99510 - Cxxxx510'
  

  The Volume ID for each CD-ROM in the set is printed above the 'Created' date on the label. The last two numbers of the Volume ID define the installation sequence of the Cumulative PTF CD-ROMs. The Volume ID is the Package Identifier of the Cumulative PTF followed by '_XX' where 'XX' identifies the sequence number.
  

  The HIPER and Database Group PTFs will be processed together and written to one or more CD-ROMs. The label on the CD-ROM for the GROUP PTFs will have the following text: 'Pkgid: iSeries-OS/400 Service Order'
  

  The Group PTF CD-ROM Volume ID is printed above the 'Created' date on the label. Format of the Volume ID is Cxxxxxxx_01,Cxxxxxxx_02, ... where the last two numbers of the Volume ID determine the Group PTF installation sequence.

• The second change is the addition of a 'README' file directory on the first volume of the HIPER/Database Group CD-ROM.
  

  In the 'README' directory there are 4 files:

  • INSTRUCT.TXT - Instructions to install this IBM OS/400 Preventative service package.
  • ORDLIST.TXT - Listing of the Cumulative PTF package, Group PTFs and Single PTFs ordered.
  • PKGLIST.TXT - Detail of the complete order including the requisites and superseded PTFs.
  • APAR.TXT - Short text description of each APAR fixed by a PTF.

  To view the files in the README directory on a PC:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM that contains the text 'Order Documentation can be found in the README Directory' into the CD-ROM drive. (This volume is also the first volume of the Group PTFs in this order.)
  2. Open the README directory
  3. Click on the file that you want to view

  To view the README from the Integrated File System on the iSeries:

  1. Execute the command WRKLNK '/QOPT/Cxxxxxxx_01/README/*' at the command line to view the README files that are on the CD-ROM.
     Note: The label of the CD-ROM is CXXXXXXX_01. To verify the label, look on the CD-ROM above the created date.
  2. From the screen that is displayed, enter a "5" (for Option 5) next to INSTRUCT.TXT to display the instruction file.

To save time you will be instructed to install the HIPER/Database Group PTFs prior to installing the Cumulative PTF Package.
