Source

RETAIN tip: H187701

Symptom

Page 4 of the SRAID.PDF document found on the ServeRAID support CD 8.30 incorrectly states the ServeRAID 8k-l supports 32 MB of cache memory. This information is found in the controller feature table.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • System x3400, Type 7973, any model
  • System x3400, Type 7974, any model
  • System x3400, Type 7975, any model
  • System x3400, Type 7976, any model
  • System x3550, Type 7978, any model
  • System x3650, Type 7979, any model
  • System x3655, Type 7985, any model
  • System x3755, Type 8877, any model

- This tip is not option specific.

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • IBM ServeRAID Application CD Version 8.30
Solution

The documentation states that the ServeRAID-8k (marketing part number 25R8064, replacement part number 25R8076) contains 32 MB of cache memory. The ServeRAID-8k 1 does not contain cache memory. The table on page 4 should of stated 0 MB not 32 MB. The table will be updated in the 8.40 ServeRAID release.

Additional information

The documentation states that the ServeRAID 8k-l contains 32 MB of cache memory. The ServeRAID 8k-l does not contain cache memory. The user may see there is 32 MB of memory, but that 32 MB of onboard memory is not being used for IO cache but for diagnostics and boot functions.

The table will be updated in the 8.40 ServeRAID release.
