H197049: Issues on full synchronization of RVM LUNS > 2 TB - IBM System Storage

Source

RETAIN tip: H197049

Symptom

Using Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) greater than 2 terabytes (TB) for synchronous Remote Volume Mirroring (RVM) pairs causes data to be incorrectly written on the secondary LUN when performing a full synchronization.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • DS3950 Express, Type 1814, any model
  • DS4200 Storage Server, Type 1814, any model
  • DS4700 Storage Server, Type 1814, any model
  • DS4700 Storage Server, Type 1814 (DC power supplies), any model
  • DS4800 Storage Server, Type 1815, any model
  • DS5020 Disk Controller (1814-20A), any model
  • DS5100 Storage Controller, Type 1818, any model, any Model
  • DS5300 Storage Controller, Type 1818, any model, any Model

This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.

  • The 7.60.xx.xx firmware for the DS4000 and DS5000 is affected.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

This behavior has been corrected in controller firmware version 07.60.40.00.

The firmware is available from the IBM System Storage Support web site at the following URL:

Workaround

The only workaround is to use logical drives smaller than 2 TB for all RVM configurations.
