Symptom

When a single 2Rx4 Dual In-Line Memory Module (DIMM) 1DPC is installed, memory sparing does not work. If a single 2Rx4 DIMM 1DPC is installed and the memory sparing option is enabled, an invalid configuration for rank sparing error appears.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:

• Any IBM supported memory DIMM, any replacement part number (CRU)

This tip is not system specific.

This tip is not software specific.

Workaround

Installing a second DIMM allows memory sparing to be configured.
