RETAIN Tip: H206997
Newly installed Fibre Channel or internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) Host Interface Cards (HICs) may not be recognized in IBM System Storage DS3500 and DCS3700 controllers. This issue only affects those controllers that are received from IBM with the 7.83.22.00 firmware installed. Systems on previous levels of firmware and which have been upgraded to 7.83.22.00 through the IBM DS Storage Manager Graphical User Interface (GUI) will not experience this issue.
The system may be any of the following
- IBM servers:
- IBM System Storage DCS3700 Storage Subsystem, Type 1818, any model
- IBM System Storage DS3512, Type 1746, any model
- IBM System Storage DS3524, Type 1746, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The 7.83.22.00 firmware for the DS3500 and DCS3700 is affected. The system has the symptom described above.
This behavior will be corrected on the manufacturing line so that new machines are not shipped with this issue. Once the Workaround described below has been executed, the issue no longer will occur on an affected system. No other actions are required.
Reloading the 7.83.22.00 controller firmware using the IBM DS Storage Manager GUI corrects this issue.
Certain modules are not loaded due to inadequate space being allocated when the firmware was installed initially. Reinstalling the firmware using the Storage Manager GUI will correct this issue (other methods of reinstalling the firmware, such as using the serial shell, will not correct this issue).
