Source

RETAIN tip: H21307

Symptom

The system will restart unexpectedly during the operating system installation process and cannot successfully install VMware ESXi 5.0 or 5.1 if it is installed in Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) mode and the Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) is enabled.

Affected configurations

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • VMware ESXi 5.0, any update
  • VMware ESXi 5.1, any update

The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM options:

  • Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)

This tip is not system specific.

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information: http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/

Workaround

TXT is not supported under UEFI mode. Users need to choose one of these options:

  • Disable TXT when installing in UEFI mode.
  • Install the operating system under legacy BIOS mode with TXT enabled.
