Symptom

While attempting to boot or install the operating system the system may hang. This hang also may occur during run-time if the Emulex NIC driver is being accessed.

Emulex BE3 firmware version is 4.1.315.3 is on the NICs.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • BladeCenter HS23, type 7875, any model

The system is configured with at least one of the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 32-bit, any service pack
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, any update
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, any update

This tip is not option specific.

The 4.1.334.25 device driver for the Emulex NIC is affected.

The 4.1.315.3 firmware for the Emulex NIC is affected.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution

Download and install Emulex FW 4.1.334.47 or higher.

The Emulex BE3 firmware and driver 4.1.334.47 ISO (bootable) image (Emulex UCNA Firmware and Drivers - Release 4.0 Build 16.14 firmware 4.1.334.47) or later, is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Additional information

There is a compatibility issue with the Emulex BE3 operating system drivers version 4.1.334.25 and Emulex BE3 firmware version 4.1.315.3.
