• New IBM xSeries firmware and device driver file naming convention

This Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II) daemon is supported on 32-bit and 64-bit kernels shipped with versions of the Linux distributions listed below. Official Updates and Service Packs for these distributions are also covered in this support statement.

Before installing this RSA II daemon, please refer to the following websites to see if IBM supports your server on one of the operating systems listed above, and that the RSA II is compatible with your server.

If you have an old RSA II daemon successfully running on a server whose operating system is not listed above, then you should continue using the configuration you have. If you want to upgrade to this version of the RSA II daemon, then your server should be running one of the supported operating systems listed above.

Installing the RSA II daemon on VMware ESX Server 3

1. Make sure both the runtime and development libusb libraries are installed on your VMware system by executing an rpm query command. It is OK if your version numbers are different.
   • rpm -qa | grep libusb
     • libusb-0.1.6-3
     • libusb-devel-0.1.6-3
   If the command does not return these two libusb entries, then you will need to install them. Both libusb rpms are in the /VMware/RPMS/ subdirectory on your VMware CD.
   
   
2. Download or copy the RSA II daemon package (ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xxa_linux_32-64.tgz, where xx is the version number of the RSA II package) to the VMware server and expand the .tgz file.
   • tar xzvf ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xxa_linux_32-64.tgz
3. Expanding the .tgz file will create an SRPMS directory. Change directory to SRPMS.
   • cd SRPMS
4. Install the 32-bit source rpm package by issuing two rpm commands (where xx is the version number of the RSA II package).
   • rpmbuild --rebuild ibmusbasm-1.xx-2.src.rpm
   • cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386
   • rpm -ivh ibmusbasm-1.xx-2.i386.rpm
5. The RSA II daemon is ready to use.
